Id-Nr. 1007 St. Bartholomäus cathedral (Frankfurt)
Former imperial monastery church. Since 1356 place of the election, from 1562 to 1792 also of the coronation of the German Emperor. Today parish church. Gothic building, 1315-1541, continued in the 19th century. 1944 destroyed, 1953 rebuilt. Restauration 1989-1994. Actual conservation work on the tower.
Of particular interest:
Outside: Gothic portals with bronze doors and Bartholomew relief (1957) from Hans Mettel.
Inside: Gothic altars, Maria-Schlaf-altar (1434 - 38), Gothic Bartholomew-frieze (1410), Gravestones, choir stalls, Klais organs, election chapel. In the former cloister: cathedral museum, access to tower.
