The "school-garden", founded in 1912/13 in the direct vicinity of the castle Schönfeld, was later renamed "Botanischer Garten", and in 1982 was turned into a public park. 20 years later, the Municipal Administration of the Environment and Public Parks made an effort to revive this gem of Kassel’s 50ies gardening culture: a rose-garden was planted, using varieties popular during that period, in mainly pastel shades.

To the south, the botanical garden merges into the Park Schönfeld; to the north is the municipal nursery.
