Id-Nr. 1399 German Goldsmiths' House (Hanau)
The Deutsches Goldschmiedehaus (German Goldsmiths' House) on the Altstädter Markt is one of the most historically significant buildings in the Old Town section of Hanau and served originally as the city hall. Construction of the building was begun in 1537-38 during the Late Renaissance Period.
The building fell victim to a bomb attack on Hanau on March 19, 1945. The reconstruction of the building was completed in 1958, and from then on, it could do justice to its intended purpose as an exhibition site for German and international jewelry as well as hollow- and flatware. When the Association for Goldsmiths' Art transferred to Hanau in 1985, it settled to its new home in the Deutsches Goldschmiedehaus.
